‘Troublemakers will be uprooted from CHT’
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said those creating trouble in the hill areas will be uprooted to establish lasting peace.
“The government will do whatever needed to keep the overall situation of the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) region stable,” he said while addressing a special discussion on law and order with high-level administrative and security officials of the three CHT districts at the Khudra Nri-Goshthi Auditorium in Rangamati.
CHT Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing presided over the meeting which was attended by, among others, Dipankar Talukder, MP; Basanti Chakma, MP; Inspector General of Police Dr Javed Patwari; Rapid Action Battalion Director General Benazir Ahmed; Border Guard Bangladesh Director General Major General Md Shafeenul Islam; Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Director General Major General Kazi Sharif Kaikobad; and circle chiefs, district council chairmen, Headman-Karbaris and local dignitaries of the three hill tracts districts.
Noting that the discussion was held to determine the ways and means to establish permanent peace in the hill areas, Asaduzzaman said terrorists will never be allowed to hinder the process of establishing peace initiated following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord-1997.
