Steps against those airing local ads on foreign channels
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday said the government would take necessary steps against those involved in airing local advertisement in foreign TV channels.
“The government has already asked local cable operators to keep Bangladeshi channels first in its serial. Steps would be taken against the persons who are involved in creating advertisement with foreign artists,” he told journalists at his secretariat office.
Later, the minister held a meeting with members of Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO).
Prime Minister's Advisor on Private Industry and Investment Salman F Rahman, Information Secretary Abdul Malek, BTV Director General SM Harun-or Rashid, senior journalist Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Babu, were present at the meeting.
He said mass media is the fourth organ of a state, as it plays a vital role in showcasing the reality of a society. But there are also problems, as some people are airing advertisement on foreign TV channels instead of local ones.
TV channels of the country are being deprived of revenue and consequently falling into financial crisis, he added.
