SI among 2 remanded
A Chattogram court yesterday placed a suspended sub-inspector (SI) of police and his brother-in-law on two-day remand, in a case filed over beating a ship-breaking yard worker to death over allegation of cellphone theft last Monday in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.
The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Robiul Islam passed the remand order for SI Iqbal Parvej Raihan and his brother-in-law Mizan Uddin, after hearing a seven-day remand prayer from Sitakunda Police Station, said Court Inspector Subrata Banarjee.
Ejahar Mia (26), son of Mofizur Rahman was assaulted by the duo at Bhatiyari union of Sitakunda upazila on Monday night.
He later succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital after the accused released him.
Police later arrested Iqbal and his relative in this connection, and a case was lodged.
SI Iqbal had been recently transferred to Range Reserve Police of Chattogram district from Guimara Police Station of Khagrachari district. He was suspended after being arrested, said police sources.
