Road crashes kill 11
Eleven people were killed in road accidents in five districts during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Dhamrai of Dhaka, three people were killed as a speeding bus hit a battery-run rickshaw-van from behind on Dhaka-Aricha highway yesterday, said Dhamrai police.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
In Savar, a man was killed in a collision between a bus and truck on Dhaka-Aricha highway the same day.
Police said identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
In Cumilla, three people were killed as a cattle-laden truck plunged into a ditch beside Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chiora area yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Khokon Mia, 40, Samiul Islam, 45, and Anwar Hossain, 42.
Police said they all were cattle traders from Mohespur in Jhenidah.
Miabazar highway police said six cows were also killed. The accident occurred as the truck driver lost control over the vehicle, said the law enforcers.
In Barishal, two youths died and a bus hit a motorcycle they were riding in Bashpatty area of Babuganj upazila yesterday, said Mahabubul Alom, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station.
The victims were identified as Suruj, 32, and Murad, 30, from Dehergati village in Babuganj.
After the accident, they were taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.
In Chattogram, a motorcyclist was killed after he fell down from the bike in the port city’s Chandgaon area yesterday, said police.
The deceased was identified as Solaiman Hossen, 40, from Chandgaon area.
He was declared dead at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said CMCH police.
In Thakurgaon, a human haulier ran a cattle trader over at Jadurani Hat of Haripur upazila on Tuesday, leaving him dead.
Saiful Islam, 45, from Sangaon village in the upazila, died on the spot, said police.
