Road crashes kill 11
Eleven people were killed and ten injured in road accidents in six districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Gopalganj, a woman and her son were killed as a bus hit them on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Muksudpur.
Shaon Begum, 34; and her son Sakib Khan, 8; died on the spot, police said. Following the incident, agitated locals blocked the highway for two hours. Police seized the bus and detained the driver and his helper, said Mahfujur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station.
In Rangpur, three men were killed after a bus hit a motorcycle they were riding in Mithapukur on Friday night, said police. Murad, 33, and Modhu, 34, died on way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Shambhu, 33, at the hospital, said witnesses.
In Chattogram, a truck fatally hit Nurul Haque, 28, in Panchlaish area of the city.
Elsewhere in the district, Nona Barua, 50, was killed and four were injured in a collision between a pickup and an auto-rickshaw in Raozan, said police.
Meanwhile, an auto-rickshaw driver was killed and five passengers were injured as the vehicle collided with a pickup on Mymensingh-Netrakona road in Phulpur. Abul Bashar, 50, died on the spot, said police. The injured were taken to hospital.
In Joypurhat, a man was killed after he fell from a moving three-wheeler in Kalai. Azizul Haque, 45, died on the way to Joypurhat Modern Hospital, said police.
In Jashore, Monirul Islam, 20, helper of a truck driver, was killed and Rana Hossain, 32, the trucker, injured as the vehicle hit a tree on Jashore-Magura road in Sadipur after the driver lost control, said police.
A bus hit a Nasimon on Jashore-Satkhira highway in Jashore’s Jamtola, killing the human-haulier driver Tutul Hossain, 21.
