Rejoinder, our reply
China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. has sent a rejoinder to two reports headlined “Police recover mutilated body of ex-army man” and “Murder of ex-army man: Police begins investigation” published in The Daily Star on June 17 and June 18 respectively.
Following is the full text of the rejoinder sent by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd.
“Our attention has been drawn to a couple of reports published in your esteemed daily on- 17.06.2019 (https://bit.ly/2FeM1SB) and on 18.06.2019 (https://bit.ly/2KnuM5G) recovery of dead body of an employee of Wahid Construction Ltd. In those reports name of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) has appeared as the accused based on the statement made by the employer of the deceased person. This kind of false and untrue statement has created confusion among the people and severely damaged the reputation for CHEC. Hence, we take the opportunity to furnish our statement as below:
“First of all, the management and employees of CHEC express deep shock and condolence at the sad demise of Mr. Nannu Miah and convey heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family.
“China Harbour management like to strongly say that the allegations raised by the Wahid Construction Ltd, which was mentioned in the reports about involvement of employees of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. in the incident is completely baseless and motivated.
“The Police is investigating into the incident and we are sincerely co-operating with the investigating team. We hope and believe that the truth behind this sad incident will soon come out.
OUR REPLY
The rejoinder does not contradict the point that the accusation was made by the employer of the deceased person. The Daily Star on its own never accused China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., and it was mentioned in the report that no official of China Harbour could be reached for comment.
The second report corresponds the first one in which the accounts of law enforcing agencies were stated along with the information of the First Information Report (FIR) of the case filed by Wahid Construction Ltd.
We stand by our reports.
