Rab detains DNCC councillor Razib
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members tonight detained Tarequzzaman Razib, the ward-33 councillor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), from a house of Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka.
Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, senior assistant director of Rab's Legal and Media, confirmed it to The Daily Star saying that Razib was detained on the basis of specific allegations against him as part the ongoing drives against corruption, drugs and criminalisation.
He is joint general secretary of Dhaka city (North) unit of Jubo League, the Rab sources said.
Tipped off that Razib remains absconded in the house of his friend Mishu Hasan, a team of Rab-1 cordoned off the house no 404 around 9:00pm and later started raiding at the sixth floor of the ninth-storey building, Rab- 1 Commanding Officer Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem told reporters during a briefing after the drive ended.
During the drive, the elite force members detained Razib from the house, he said.
Besides, the team recovered seven bottles of foreign liquor, an illegal pistol, three rounds of bullets, Tk 33,000 in cash and a passport of Razib from the house, the Rab official said.
There are many allegations, including land grabbing, extortion and terrorism in Mohammadpur area against Razib, said Sarwar Bin Kashem, adding that they will conduct drive at the house and office of Razib.
Meanwhile, Rab cordoned off Razib's house at Mohammadpur Housing Society on road no. 1 in Mohammadpur.
