Next hearing Dec 9
The prosecutor yesterday appealed to the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal, seeking permission to record again some vital points in statements of the complainant of the Holey Artisan Café attack case that were unwillingly dropped out on Monday.
Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu submitted the petition, stating that Sub-Inspector of Gulshan Police Station Ripon Kumar Das mistakenly failed to narrate some vital points while giving statements.
Tribunal Judge Majibur Rahman asked the prosecutor to submit the petition on December 9, the date for the next hearing of the case, and specify where and what points were dropped out.
Meantime, lawyers for the accused concluded cross-examining SI Ripon, also the first prosecution witness. They asked the complainant about dissimilarities in filing the case, which he denied.
After the hearing, the tribunal issued summons upon four other prosecution witnesses to appear before it on the scheduled date.
Earlier in the day, all the six accused, now in jail, were produced before the tribunal under tight security.
They are Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, Rashed alias Rash, Sohel Mahfuz, Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan, Hadisur Rahman Sagor and Rakibul Islam.
Two other accused -- Shariful Islam Khaled and Mamunur Rashid Ripon -- are on the run.
On July 23, 2018, over two years after the terror attack, Inspector Humayun Kabir of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, who is also the case's investigation officer, pressed charges against eight alleged militants. On November 26, the same year, the tribunal framed charges against the eight.
SI Ripon filed the case with Gulshan Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act on July 4, 2016.
