Neuroscience research workshop opens at UIU
The inaugural session of the five-day workshop “2nd IBRO-APRC Bangladesh Associate School of Neuroscience”, organised by United International University’s (UIU) computer science and engineering department in conjunction with International Brain Research Organization, was held yesterday at the university’s auditorium in the capital, said a press release.
World renowned researchers, neurosurgeons, academicians and 11 experts from five different countries are conducting the workshop.
Prof Abul Kalam Azad, director general of Directorate General of Health Services, was the chief guest.
Prof Shubhagata Choudhury, former dean of Chittagong University’s Faculty of Medicine and former principal of Chittagong Medical College; Prof Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, vice chancellor of UIU; and Faridur Rahman Khan, vice chairperson of UIU’s board of trustees and managing director of United Hospital Ltd, attended the session among others.
Dr Syed Sayed Ahmed, neurosurgery consultant of United Hospital, presented a paper titled “Progress on Neuroscience in Bangladesh” during the inaugural session.
A competitive system was put in place to select participants for the workshop. More than 100 researchers from seven countries in the Asia-Pacific region applied, and 30 were invited to the programme.
