Modi, Hasina exchange new year’s greetings
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday called his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina to extend the new year’s greetings.
Modi phoned the Bangladesh prime minister at 12:20pm, said PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim, reports UNB.
Extending her greetings to Modi, Hasina asked him to convey her good wishes to the people of India. The conversation lasted for about 15 minutes.
Our New Delhi correspondent adds, the Indian prime minister also congratulated Hasina on being reelected the president of Awami League.
Modi also highlighted the progress achieved in India-Bangladesh relations in 2019.
He said the upcoming birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 50 years of the liberation of Bangladesh and establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties “provided important milestones to further progress of the close India-Bangladesh ties, which is a priority of his government,” according to a statement issued by the Indian PMO.
The Indian premier also expressed his condolence on the untimely demise of former high commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Syed Muazzem Ali.
