Khoka’s body arrives today
The body of former mayor of Dhaka City Corporation Sadeque Hossain Khoka will arrive today from New York, where he breathed his last on Monday.
An Emirates Airline flight carrying his body is scheduled to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8:10am this morning, family members told The Daily Star.
The vice-chairman of BNP will be buried at Jurain graveyard next to his parents following his namaz-e-janazas.
BNP standing committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku will receive the body on behalf of the party.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at parliament’s south plaza at 11am. His body will then be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar from noon to 1pm for people from all walks of life to pay their last respects to the freedom fighter. The second janaza will be held at BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters after Zohr prayers; while a third one will be held at Dhaka South City Corporation building premises. Khoka’s body will then be taken to his Gopibagh house, following which a fourth namaz-e-janaza will be held at Dhupkhola ground after Asr prayers.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said to mark the death of Khoka, black flags will be hoisted in party offices across the country, and party leaders and activists will wear black badges.
Meanwhile, DSCC declared a holiday today in honour of Khoka. All activities of the city corporation and its regional offices will remain closed on the day.
A janaza of Khoka was earlier held at Jamaica Muslim Center in New York, joined by a number of Bangladeshis.
Khoka breathed his last while undergoing treatment for cancer in New York earlier this week, after suffering from kidney cancer since 2014.
He is survived by his wife Ismat Ara, daughter Sarika Sadeque, sons Ishraque Hossain and Isfaque Hossain, and a host of relatives, followers and well-wishers.
