Khaleda files fresh bail petition
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday filed a fresh petition with the High Court seeking bail in a murder case filed in Cumilla in 2015.
The case was filed for killing eight persons and injuring 25-26 others by setting a bus on fire in Chouddagram upazila on February 2, 2015, during the anti-government agitations.
“Her name was not mentioned in the first information report (FIR) and there is no specific allegation against her in the case,” her lawyer Barrister Kayser Kamal said.
The lawyer also argued that the BNP chief has been suffering from various diseases and therefore, she should be granted bail in the case.
The HC may hold hearing on the petition next Monday, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir UIlah told this correspondent.
Earlier on January 23, the HC asked the lower court concerned to dispose of by February 4, the petition filed by Khaleda seeking bail in the case.
On February 4, Cumilla Additional District and Session Judge Mohammad Ali Akbar rejected the bail petition.
