A memorial meeting on Shahriar Shahid, managing editor of state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), who passed away on November 17, was held yesterday.
Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University and teacher of its Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) department, was present as the chief guest at the commemorative meeting held at Jatiya Press Club with General Secretary Farida Yasmin in the chair.
The programme was arranged by friends, fellows and relatives of the late journalist.
GTV Editor-in-Chief Syed Ishtiaque Reza, Prof Robayet Ferdous, Prof Mofizur Rahman and Associate Prof Abdur Razzaque Khan of DU Mass Communication and Journalism department, UNB Editor Mahfuzur Rahman, Dainik Bangladesher Khabar Editor Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, Shahriar Shahid's classmates Nazma Binte Alamgir, General Manager of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority, senior journalist Swapan Kumar Saha and AB Bank Vice-President Shawkat Aziz, spoke on the occasion, among others.
Shahriar Shahid, a permanent member of Jatiya Press Club, breathed his last at Apollo Hospitals Dhaka on November 17 after suffering from heart-related complications.
