Gas line blast leaves 2 dead, 6 injured

Two garment workers died and six were injured in a wall collapse following an explosion caused by a gas line leak at a house in Bhulta area of Rupgani upazila yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Shamim and Rakib, said Rafiqul Alam, in-charge of Bhulta Police Station.

The incident took place around 3:15am at the ground floor of a three-storey building, said Abdul Mannan, in-charge of Kanchan Fire Service in Rupganj.

Locals rescued and rushed six of them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police said, adding Shamim and Rakib succumbed to their injuries at DMCH.

The injured Hazrat Ali, Tariqul, Liakat and Ariful were undergoing treatment at DMCH. Two others were given treatment at a local hospital.

Confirming the incident, police said, there were traces of gas in the house and a leakage in the line.
