Expelled Jubo League leader on 3-day remand
A Manikganj court yesterday placed an expelled Jubo League leader on a three-day remand over his second wife's murder after police had arrested him at Dhaka airport the day before.
Selim Mondal, former president of Savar Thana unit of the youth wing of Awami League, was trying to flee abroad, said police.
The remand order came after the law enforcers had produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer, said Anowar Hossen, sub-inspector of Singair Police Station.
On August 3, police recovered a body with 80 percent burns from a banana orchard in Baira area of Singair a day after Aysha Akter Bakul, Selim's second wife, had gone missing.
Two week later, it was primarily proved that it was Aysha's body, said the SI.
Later, her brother Ujjal Hossain filed a case with the police station accusing Selim and several of his family members of killing his sister.
On August 19, police arrested Selim's younger brother Jewel Modal in connection with the incident.
Meantime, Selim went into hiding and on August 28 he received bail from the High Court, said Anowar Hossen, also investigation officer of the case.
On August 20, Jubo League central committee expelled Selim over the issue, said its sources.
