Ensuring a cavity-free Bangladesh
With an aim to ensure a cavity-free country, Bangladesh Dental Society (BDS) and Unilever Bangladesh's oral care brand Pepsodent celebrated World Oral Health Day yesterday through various activities in Dhaka's Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
Dentists and students from all over the country participated in the daylong event.
The day began with a rally in the morning. The event also saw launch of “Sensitive Expert” by Pepsodent. Pepsodent also showcased the works it did with BDS in creating healthy smiles in schools through various programmes.
A major feature of the event was a brushing session with children, teaching them the right techniques and encouraging them to brush their teeth twice a day.
Nafees Anwar, beauty and personal care director of Unilever Bangladesh, stressed the importance of certified dentists working in alliance with Unilever, to make sure everyone can identify them in their community to safeguard their oral health.
Dr Humayun Kabir Bulbul, secretary general of BDS, was also present at the event.
According to a global study by Unilever, one out of three children experienced moderate to severe oral pain last year. These problems eventually lead to children opting out of school activities.
World Oral Health Day was launched in 2013 by FDI World Dental Federation. The day also marks launch of a year-long campaign to raise awareness on oral health and prevention of oral diseases.
