Effective insecticide arriving soon
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday called upon people to remain calm, saying that the process of bringing effective insecticide to eliminate Aedes mosquitoes is underway.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, made the call while addressing a dengue prevention programme in front of AL’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.
“We are consulting with experts so that no ineffective insecticide enters the country. Please, have a little patience,” Quader said.
The Awami League leader also called upon people to come forward to tackle the dengue crisis through united efforts.
Responding to a query on whether the dengue fever has taken an epidemic turn in the country, Quader said, “We cannot deny the reality that dengue has spread all over the country. We have taken the issue seriously.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also called upon people from all walks of life to make their best effort in preventing the mosquito menace, he said.
Referring to the two city mayors and health minister, Quader said the prime minister has directed them to work together and they are doing their jobs accordingly through conducting awareness building campaigns.
He also criticised BNP for handing over leaflets in the name of carrying out mosquito prevention activities, and asked them to come up with a collective action to prevent the dengue outbreak.
Along with the government, Quader said, Awami League has also undertaken actions to engage people in tackling the situation.
