Deceased UK-returnee didn’t have Covid-19
A 61-year-old UK returnee woman, who died at the coronavirus isolation facility at Sylhet Saheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital on Sunday, was not affected by coronavirus.
The test report of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed that she was not a coronavirus patient, said Dr Debapada Ray, director of health at Sylhet division's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) office.
The woman came to Bangladesh on March 4 and was suffering from fever, cough, and respiratory complications from March 10.
She was admitted to the isolation centre of the hospital as a suspected Covid-19 patient on March 20. Before IEDCR could collect her sample to test, she died in the early hours on March 22.
On Sunday morning, IEDCR collected her sample for test before she was buried at the graveyard of the shrine of Manik Pir in Sylhet that afternoon. Her family members were also ordered to be in precautionary home quarantine.
Some 328 more foreign returnees were taken under home quarantine in the last 24 hours till yesterday afternoon, said Dr Anisur Rahman, assistant director of health at Sylhet division.
So far, 2,176 persons are under quarantine in Sylhet division and 233 were given release orders after their quarantine period ended, he added.
