Court summons Nawshaba on July 14
A Dhaka court yesterday asked actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed to appear before it on July 14 in a case filed under the ICT Act, for allegedly spreading rumours on social media during last year’s student protests for road safety.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Didar Hossain passed the order that Nawshaba must be at the court in person. Earlier her lawyer was allowed to defend in her absence till submission of the police report.
Police pressed charges against her on May 15. The news of submitting the charge sheet was published on Sunday.
Nawshaba was detained from Uttara on August 4 last year for allegedly spreading rumours on social media about the student movement. Police said she did so to create anarchy and confuse people.
The next day she was placed on a four-day remand, and was again put on two-day remand on August 10.
On August 23, she was granted bail considering her health condition.
