Councillor sent to jail in Ctg
A Chattogram court yesterday sent a local councillor -- prime accused in Jubo League leader Mohiuddin Sohel murder case -- to jail.
The councillor Saber Ahmed had remained out on bail since the case was filed with Double Mooring Police Station on January 8. He surrendered before court at around 11am yesterday for seeking further bail while the court of Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha sent him to jail, said Md Fakhruddin, the public prosecutor.
Mohiuddin Sohel was beaten and stabbed to death by an angry mob for alleged extortion from local traders at Pahartali Railway Bazar on January 7.
Sakirul Islam, brother of Mohiuddin, filed a case naming 27 persons, including a leader of Chattogram metropolitan unit of Jatiya Party and ward councillor of city corporation, and 150 unnamed others with Double Mooring Police Station the following day.
After the murder, Mohiuddin’s family claimed that he was targeted as he spoke out against the irregularities and other crimes in the market area.
