Cohorts snatch drug peddler from police

Armed criminals injured two members of police and snatched an arrested drug peddler in Rajshahi on Monday night.

During a drive in Madhya Char area, a team of law enforcers arrested drug peddler Abdur Razzak and confiscated  several hundred bottles of Phensidyl from his possession.

Soon afterwards, around 9:00pm, over a dozen men equipped with knives and machetes surrounded the two -- Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahbub and Constable Sujon. The gang stabbed and beat them up, said Assistant Commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam, spokesperson of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

Mahbub and Sujon were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, with the latter in a critical condition with several stab injuries, he added.
