A bold role in generating social awareness
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi, one of the leading cultural organisations of the country, celebrated its golden jubilee yesterday.
On the occasion, the organisation arranged a programme at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
The three-day cultural programme started with a rally, theatre performance, dance and so on.
A discussion was held prior to the cultural programme. Discussants reflected on Udichi's role in the national movements and its impact on the society over the span of five decades.
The speakers were of the view that the cultural organisation has been relentlessly working to generate social awareness.
The organisation is dedicated to work for the oppressed, they said at the programme organised by Udichi.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said we want to ensure a modern and free-thinking society. Udichi can play an important role to make that possible.
He further mentioned several cultural activists of Udichi are working across the country.
The government is providing its support to strengthen them and will continue in future.
President of Udichi's central unit, Professor Dr Safiuddin Ahmad; former president of Udichi and cultural personality, Kamal Lohani; former lawmaker Prof Panna Kaisar, and cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam attended the programme.
With the theme, “Udichi'r Suborno Jayanti: Adhar Brintey Agun Jalo, Amra Juddho, Amra Alo”, the cultural organisation will hold another programme at the Shilpakala Academy today.
Udichi Shilpigoshthi was founded by writers Satyen Sen and Ranesh Das Gupta along with numerous youths in 1968, and through 1971 it operated a cultural campaign.
In 2013, the organisation was awarded the Ekushey Padak, the country's most prestigious award.
