BFUJ, DUJ to hold rally today to protest Dr Kamal's remarks
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) are set to hold a rally today to protest, what they claim, indecent and objectionable remarks about journalists by Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain.
In a joint statement yesterday, BFUJ President Mollah Jalal, its Secretary General Shaban Mahmud and DUJ President Abu Jafar Surjo, its General Secretary Sohel Haidar Chowdhury have requested all journalists to join the protest rally to be held in front of Jatiya Press Club at 11:00am, said a media release.
On December 14, BFUJ and DUJ announced a two-day protest programmes if Dr Kamal Hossain does not apologise publicly for his remarks about media workers.
DFUJ and DUJ leaders said Dr Kamal threatened reporters when he was asked to clarify his position on Jamaat-e-Islami at a programme on Martyred Intellectuals Day.
The journalist leaders said Dr Kamal misbehaved with media workers, asking them to “shut up”.
They described his behaviour as “unacceptable”.
