ACC asks police to stop former People’s Leasing chair from leaving country
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked special branch (SB) of police to take necessary steps to prevent former chairman of now liquidated People’s Leasing and Financial Services (PLFS), Capt M Moazzam Hossain, who allegedly misappropriated money from the financial institution, from leaving the country.
Yesterday, it also asked SB to take steps to prevent PLFS’ former directors -- Bishwajit Kumar Roy and Khobir Uddin, who are accused in two separate cases filed over misappropriation of money -- from leaving the country.
Three separate letters signed by ACC’s Assistant Director Mohammad Sirajul Haque were sent to Special Superintendent of Police (Immigration) of Special Branch.
One letter reads that ACC has been carrying out inquiry against Moazzam and others for misappropriating money from the non-bank financial institution through irregularities and corruption.
“It is learnt that the alleged person along with his family is attempting to leave the country. For the sake of proper inquiry the person should be barred from leaving the country,” it said.
In the rest of the letters, Bishwajit and Khobir are shown accused in two separate cases filed in 2019 and 2016 for misappropriation of money from PLFS.
Recently, the government directed the central bank to liquidate PLFS due to deterioration of its financial health in the last several years.
