7-year-old, hit by auto-rickshaw, dies in Dhaka
A seven-year-old girl died yesterday after being run over by a battery-run auto-rickshaw, in Nandipara bank colony of the capital. The deceased was identified as Ujma Islam Jannat, a third-grader of a local madrasa.
Her father Mohammad Sohag, a construction worker, said an auto-rickshaw ran her over while she was playing with other children near her residence around 10am.
Locals rushed her to a nearby hospital in Mugda, from where Sohag took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He said the girl breathed her last at 5pm.
Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge of Sabujbag Police Station, said the auto-rickshaw was seized but its driver managed to flee.
MOTORBIKER KILLED, TWO INJURED ON HANIF FLYOVER
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist died and two others were injured after the rider lost control of bike on Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the city’s Tikatuli area early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Kamruzzaman Heera, 26, a private job holder. The injured are Sohel Hossain, 27, and Khadiza Akhtar, 25.
Uncle of the deceased Abdul Motaleb said Kamruzzaman, a resident of east Nakhalpara, was going to Shanir Akhara to drop two of his friends to their home on his motorbike. Commuters in the area rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Kamruzzaman dead.
Sohel and Khadiza are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Sub-inspector Abul Kalam Azad of Wari Police Station confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
