3 staffers suspended for defamatory comments
Three staffers of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) in Rangpur were suspended on Thursday night for making an indecent comment about a senior teacher.
The suspended employees are Md Rabiul Islam, senior PA; Nur Alam Mia, a security guard, and Md Maleq Mia, a lab attendant of chemistry department.
The suspension letter was issued on Thursday night, confirmed Ariful Islam, a public relations official of the university.
In the letter it was mentioned that they recently made an indecent comment on Facebook about Dr RM Hafizur Rahman, a professor of mathematics, which drew the authority’s attention.
BRU authorities had issued a show cause notice to the accused staffers but their answers were not satisfactory, hence they were suspended.
However, Nur Alam Mia, who is also president of BRU Workers’ Union, said the allegation against them is not true.
Meanwhile, Moktarul Islam, a section officer of security at BRU was suspended for possessing phensidyl. He is now in Dinajpur jail.
Moniruzzaman, OC of Birampur Police Station said a team of police officers had caught Moktarul with two bottles of phensidyl from Hariharpur village on Saturday.
