3 ‘Neo JMB’ men held in Gabtoli
Counter-terrorism officials claimed to have arrested three alleged operatives of “Neo JMB” in the city’s Gabtoli area on Wednesday night.
The arrestees are: Md Abdullah, 24; Shafiqul Islam alias Mollaji, 38, and Musatafa Hosen Arif, 25.
A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested them around 8:30pm after they arrived in Dhaka by a bus from a northern district, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to CTTC officials, the three were once members of JMB. They joined Neo JMB through Sohel Mahfuz alias Haatkata Sohel, an accused in the Holey Artisan attack case.
Officials said Shafiqul and Musatafa took several other operatives to India to train them on making bombs and using firearms.
Both returned after some of their associates were arrested by Indian authorities in June. Afterwards, they started strengthening the outfit through Abdullah, said the CTTC official.
A case was filed with Darussalam Police Station under Anti-Terrorism Act.
