3 killed, 2 hurt in road accidents
Three people were killed in road accidents in two districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Cumilla, two transport workers were killed and two injured as a truck overturned after hitting a tree beside Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Falgunkora of Chauddagram upazila.
The deceased are Momtaz Mia, 50, from Mainkarhat; and Bachchu Mia, 40, from Uttar Digholdi in Bhola Sadar upazila.
Abdullah Al Mahfuz, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chauddagram Police Station, said the accident took place as driver of the truck -- carrying a generator from Dhaka to Chattogram -- lost control over the vehicle.
The generator fell on Momtaz and Bachchu, he said.
The injured -- Mohammad Toiyab, 28, from Charjamin in Monpura upazila; and Jamal Hossain, 42, from Digholdi in Bhola Sadar -- were both admitted to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile in Chattogram, motorbike rider was killed as a vehicle hit him in Fakirnirhat area of Karnaphuli upazila yesterday.
The deceased -- Saiful Islam, 25, son of Kazi Mafij Ullah -- was from Chatori area in Anowara upazila, said Karnaphuli Police Station Sub-Inspector Sujon Barua.
The vehicle hit him could not be identified immediately, he said.
The body was handed over to the victim’s family.
