DU buildings declared smoking-free zone

Dhaka University authorities have declared its administrative buildings and others important places on the campus as a smoking-free zone.

The decision was taken in a syndicate meeting, chaired by the university Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, on March 21, DU public relations office said in a press release today.

Other places included buildings at all faculties, institutes, offices, classrooms, research centres and other university buildings.

Syndicate member Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, also general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA), told The Daily Star that the decision has taken aiming to keep the campus free of physical and mental effects of smoking to maintain academic atmosphere.
