Bullet-hit DB official goes under surgeries
The senior assistant commissioner of Detective Branch of police, who was shot by unknown assailants last night, went under two surgeries today.
Doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) conducted a minor surgery on Rahul Patwari’s back in the early hours and recovered a bullet, and then they conducted another operation in his stomach (food channel) to heal the wounds.
“We repaired two leaks as the bullet pierced through Rahul’s stomach. His condition remains stable,” Jesmin Nahar, a resident surgeon of DMCH, told The Daily Star.
Earlier last night, Rahul and two others were shot when the assailants opened fire to escape arrest in Jurain area of Dhaka. Belal Hossain Mridul, a police informant; and Selim, a driver sipping tea nearby, were shot during the incident.
None was arrested and no case was filled in the connection till the report was filled at 8:00pm.
Radur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Shyampur Police Station, said that they did not find any video footage of the incident as the close-circuit camera in the spot was found inactive.
Police suspect that two-three assailants were involved in the incident on a road, he said, adding that they are trying to arrest them.
