8 lives lost in road accidents
At least eight people were killed and six others injured in road accidents across the country yesterday, report our correspondents.
In Dinajpur, a biker was killed and another injured when a truck rammed their motorbike on Hili-Birampur road in Hakimpur upazila.
The deceased is Rabiul Islam, 26, of Jambuban village. His friend Ruhul Amin, 25, was taken to a hospital, said police.
In Joypurhat, an elderly man was killed when a battery-run easy bike hit him while he was crossing a road in Batamor area in the town. The deceased is Siraj Uddin, 65, of Poligram village.
In Chittagong, a rickshaw-puller was killed after a bus hit the rickshaw in Maijjartek area. The deceased is Md Khokon, 45, of Noakhali, said police.
In Sitakunda, a 60-year-old man was killed when a microbus hit him on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Barobkunda area. The deceased is Nirod Nath, 60. The accident took place in front of RR Jute Mills when Nirod was crossing the highway, said police.
In Narayanganj, a driver and helper of a pick-up were killed after the vehicle collided with a truck on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Rupganj upazila.
The deceased are driver Abid Hasan, 22, and helper Mizanur Rahman, 45.
In Cox's Bazar, two people were killed and five others injured when a Chittagong-bound bus hit a Cox's Bazar-bound microbus at Phulchhari Dargah Bridge in Chakaria upazila, reports UNB. The deceased are Liton Das, 28, and Saifur Rahman, 32.
