Closeout event of Inclusion Works held
The closeout event of Inclusion Works (IW) programme was held on June 22 in Dhaka.
IW programme, is a part of the Inclusive Futures programme, focused on enhancing job opportunities and improving work environment for people, said a press release.
Since 2019, it has supported more than 2,300 jobseekers in four countries -- Bangladesh, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda -- to gain skills around work.
Planning Minister MA Mannan was present at the programme as chief guest.
He said the government has ensured comprehensive planning for the people with disabilities as per law. The 8th Five-Year Plan has also considered their issues and economic empowerment strongly, he added.
The minister appreciated the efforts made by the IW programme to create job opportunities in Bangladesh.
Prime Minister's Office Principal Coordinator-SDGs Zuena Aziz spoke as special guest.
In Bangladesh, IW Programme has created jobs for more than 500 people with disabilities and provided skills training to thousands of them to advance their job readiness.
The programme is funded by UKaid and run in partnership with international development organisations -- including Sightsavers, organisations of people with disabilities and country partners -- to improve job opportunities for people with disabilities.
Shafiqul Islam, country director, ADD International Bangladesh; and Amrita Rejina Rozario, country director at Sightsavers Bangladesh, also spoke.
Besides, Md Mafizur Rahman, managing director of SME Foundation; Md Abul Bashar, executive director of Bangladesh Bank; Tahera Jabeen, social development adviser at FCDO Bangladesh Office; Ardashir Kabir, president of Bangladesh Employers Foundation; Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury, founder trustee of Impact Foundation; and Zahir Bin Siddque, country director of Leonard Cheshire Bangladesh, attended the event.
Utpal Mallick, project manager at Sightsavers, presented the keynote paper during the closeout event.
