If movement continues, Covid-19 situation could be similar to India, Nepal: health minister
The way the people are moving from one district to another is nothing but a "suicidal decision", Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today.
He was speaking at an emergency meeting called by the health ministry, centring Eid, today with divisional health officials and bordering districts officials including Jashore and Brahmanbaria to analyse the current situation and to contain the transmission of the Indian variant of Covid-19.
"Taking advantage of the relaxed lockdown, moving from one district to another is a suicidal decision," he said.
The health minister said the Indian variant has been killing thousands of people in the neighbouring country, created havoc in Nepal, and has now been detected in Bangladesh.
"The way people are recklessly moving and if this continues then a situation like India and Nepal may arise in Bangladesh after Eid," he warned.
The minister also said immediate steps need to be taken so that vehicles moving in the bordering districts cannot move in other districts.
