N’ganj man gets life term for raping a fourth grader
A Narayanganj court has awarded a man with life term rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 50,000 for raping a fourth grader in 2013.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal yesterday passed the order in presence of the convicted Faizur Rahman Sumon, 25. The court also ordered to donate the fined amount to the victim’s family.
Rakib Uddin, special public prosecutor of the tribunal, said Sumon, hailing from the district’s Rupganj upazila, raped the victim multiple times.
On May 22, 2013, Sumon raped the victim for the last time. When Sumon had been raping the girl on the day, she started screaming. Hearing her scream, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her. They also held Sumon on the spot, the public prosecutor said.
The victim’s father filed a case against Sumon on the same day, he added.
Sumon was a friend of the victim’s elder brother and he used to visit the victim’s home regularly.
Meanwhile, a Bogura court yesterday sent a man to jail on charges of raping his eight-year-old cousin in the district’s Gabtali upazila.
Zakir Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Gabtali Police Station, said the victim’s father filed a case with the police station against Ujjal Miah, 30, on Monday.
Police arrested the accused on the same day. During primary interrogation, Ujjal confessed his crime, said police.
According to the case statement, Ujjal took the girl to an under construction building and raped her around 7:00pm on Friday. Hearing the victim scream, locals rescued her but Ujjal managed to flee the scene.
The victim was sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for medical tests.
Elsewhere in Manikganj’s Singair upazila, a 13-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour on Sunday.
The accused Al-Amin Dewan, 25, took the girl to a nearby corn field and raped her on the day, the victim’s mother alleged; adding that Al-Amin’s father Rafiz Uddin Dewan also raped the girl a month ago.
Khandakar Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Singair Police Station, said the victim’s mother filed a case with the police station on Monday after the victim shared the incident with her.
Police could not arrest the accused till 10:00pm yesterday when this report was filed.
