Discrepancies in pay will be reduced: Bangabandhu
January 7, 1973
MAINTAIN DISCIPLINE
Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman today reiterates his government's intention to reduce the huge discrepancies in salaries of various grades of government officials. The existing administrative system, which the prime minister considers the legacy of the capitalistic and colonial set-up, would soon undergo a drastic metamorphosis, declares Bangabandhu. He expects the Pay Commission and the Service Reorganisation Committee to submit their reports within the next two months.
Inaugurating the first national conference of Bangladesh Gonokarmachari Sanjukta Parishad (BGSP) at the Engineering Institute today, the prime minister exhorts all grades of government officials to maintain discipline and official decorum. Without discipline, he observes, no nation can develop and march towards progress. He assures that the present transport system in the metropolis would be improved to facilitate the mobility of the low-income group of government officials so that they do not have excuses for late attendance in the office.
Bangabandhu further declares that there would be no class system in the government service. He asks those sitting in the highest echelons of public service to change their outlook and treat their subordinates with dignity.
BANGABANDHU VISITS SAYERA KHATUN HOSPITAL
Before flying to Dhaka, Bangabandhu on the last leg of his tour of Gopalganj visits Sheikh Sayera Khatun Red Cross Hospital at Tungipara, his village home, and one of the areas worst affected by the Pakistan army's atrocities in the Liberation War. He goes around different sections of the hospital and talks to patients receiving treatment there.
The prime minister returns to Dhaka by helicopter at noon today.
