Callousness proves costly
Two teenage students died and another was injured after being hit by a train when they were sitting on a rail track, with their earphones on, in Rajbari's Kalukhali upazila on Thursday.
The dead are Md Sakib Hasan, 16, son of Abdur Kader, and Antu Sarker, 16, son of Prafulla Sarker.
Both of them were SSC candidates of Ratandia Rajinikanth Government Pilot High School in the district, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
The injured Hasibul Islam, a college student, is the elder brother of Sakib.
Quoting locals, SM Abu Farhad, officer-in-charge of Kalukhali Police Station said, "The incident took place around 8:30pm when a Gopalganj-bound train hit the three.”
“They were sitting on the rail track and listening to music using their earphones,” he added.
Locals rushed them to Rajbari General Hospital where the duty doctor declared Sakib dead, the OC said, adding that Antu died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 1:00am yesterday.
Hasibul is currently receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital, Farhad said.
Meanwhile, a woman was killed in Cumilla after being hit by a train at Shasongasa Railway Station yesterday evening, reports our correspondent.
Ratna Akter, 26, of Palpara area of the town, was talking over the phone and walking beside the railway tracks when she got hit by the Chattogram-bound Suborno Express, said witnesses.
She went to the station to receive her husband who was returning from Sylhet, said Nazrul Islam, in-charge of Cumilla Railway Police Outpost.
