Three people, including a woman, were arrested yesterday over the rape of two girls in Noakhali and Chattogram city, police said.
In Noakhali, a 10-year-old girl was raped in Companiganj upazila on Sunday night.
Police arrested accused Joynal Abedin, 25, who is the husband of the victim's cousin.
Joynal raped the minor girl at her house in Charbalua village, a remote area in Char Elahi union, when her parents went to the upazila town for treatment of her ailing younger sister, Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said quoting locals.
Locals rescued the girl and took her to a clinic.
On information, a team from Charbalua police outpost conducted a drive and arrested the accused, the OC said.
Preparation was underway to file a case over the incident, the OC added.
In another incident, police held two people on charge of raping a 16-year-old girl in Chattogram city's Agrabad early yesterday.
The arrestees are Nuri Begum and her boyfriend. The main accused Chan Mia was on the run, said Swadip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring Police Station.
The victim from Feni came to visit her paternal aunt in Chattogram a few days ago. On Sunday night, Nuri Begum, a friend of the victim's cousin, and her boyfriend took the girl to one Chan Mia's house where Chan raped her with the help of the duo, said the OC.
The victim is undergoing treatment at the One Stop Crisis Centre of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The police official said a case was filed against the three with his police station.
