Roger Waters shows support to Hamza Choudhury for waving Palestinian flag
After Hamza Choudhury, a British player of Bangladeshi origin, won the FA Cup with his team Leicester City, he was seen holding the Palestinian flag with his teammate Wesley Fofana, in solidarity with the Palestinian people after a series of bombings in Hamas by Israel.
At least 153 people, including 42 children, have been killed in Gaza since Monday while Israel has reported 10 deaths, including two children, Reuters reported.
Roger Waters, a legendary musician and bassist for Pink Floyd, showed his support for Hamza in a video on Facebook.
The musician said that his "heart leapt with joy" after seeing such a young player taking the stand against oppression and desecration of human rights.
Roger also said that that he started a petition in his stance against the Israeli oppression on Gaza. "We will try and get l FIFA and UEFA to tell the Israeli Football Association to tell very politely that until their country comprises with international law and ensures basic human rights for the people, to respectfully not bother turning up in international and club competitions".
He also thanked all the Celtic supporters for being supportive of Hamza and ended his video with the statement, "If we're taking a knee against racism every Saturday, why aren't we all, players and fans, joining in this campaign to stop Israel operating against Palestine in the extremely racist system?"
