“I wouldn’t be the person that I am today, without my mother’s support” - Apu Biswas
Prominent actor Apu Biswas has multiple hit films under her belt. Although she took a break from shooting due to the ongoing pandemic, she stayed involved in different social awareness campaigns, from home. Unfortunately, her mother, Shefali Biswas, passed away last month. In a candid chat with The Daily Star, the actor opened up about what she admired the most about her mother and how Durga Puja will be different for her this year.
"I don't intend to buy anything new for myself for Durga Puja. Each year, I usually buy presents for my mother and my son Joy," says Apu. "As my mother is not with us anymore, Puja will not be the same for any of us. As per tradition, I will be buying presents for my son. I hope we will be able to enjoy the festivities, once things get better."
Her son, Abram Khan Joy, turned five on September 27, 2020. "Joy is the biggest blessing of my life and he means everything to me. My mother was always the most excited for his birthdays," shares the actor. "As she passed away just a few days before the occasion, we did not celebrate it this year. I pray that my son grows up to be a good person."
Apu's mother played an integral role in her accomplishments as an artiste. "I wouldn't be the person that I am today, without my mother's support. She was my biggest inspiration, and she was very protective of me," says an emotional Apu. "Although she is not with us anymore physically, I still feel her presence everyday."
The actor recently signed the government-funded film, Chayabrikkho, opposite actor Nirab. The shooting of the film was scheduled to start on October 1, but due to her mother's passing, the producers and the director decided to push back the dates. "I am deeply grateful for their thoughtful consideration. I will be discussing the shooting plans with the director in a few days," shares Apu. "The film is directed by Bandhan Biswas, and the script is great."
The Debashish Biswas directorial Shoshurbari Zindabad 2, starring Apu opposite Bappy Chowdhury, is expected to release soon. "I am looking forward to working on some new projects and I will also be attending opening ceremonies of some institutions," concludes Apu.
