Abbasuddin Sangeet Academy turns 25
Abbasuddin Sangeet Academy touched the milestone of 25 years of its journey. Marking the occasion, a discussion and musical programme was held at Gulshan Ladies Club auditorium in Dhaka on June 14.
Renowned music composer and director Azad Rahman, renowned artiste-writer-researcher Mostafa Zaman Abbasi, noted singer Syed Abdul Hadi and reputed artiste and teacher Dr. Nashid Kamal spoke on life and contributions of legendary singer Abbasuddin Ahmed and on the academy. Principal of Abbasuddin Sangeet Academy, eminent singer Ferdausi Rahman presided over the programme.
“The contribution of Abbasuddin Ahmed in the field of Bangla Music is immense. Kazi Nazrul Islam is our National Poet. Many of his compositions, including the famous one 'O Mon Ramjaner O Rojar Shesh-e' with many hamd and naat have conspicuous connection with Abbasuddin. It's unfortunate that Abbasuddin Sangeet Academy doesn't have a permanent place despite its being in operation for the last 24 years,” said Ferdausi Rahman.
Artistes of the academy rendered chorus at the programme. They presented laxmangeet, sargamgeet, chhoto kheyal, Tagore songs, Nazrul sangeet and palli sangeet. Alumni of the academy also performed solo songs at the event.
