At least five Bangladeshis died of Covid-19 in New York in five hours yesterday, according to a journalist.
Besides, another Bangladeshi died of coronavirus in New Jersey yesterday, Zakaria Masud, editor of local daily Ajkal and president of Jackson Heights Bangladeshi Business Association, told The Daily Star.
A 49-year-old engineer and a female restaurant worker are among the five who died in New York between 2:00pm and 7:00pm yesterday, Zakaria Masud said.
There are lakhs of Bangladeshis living in New York. Many who work in the service sector and drive cabs are vulnerable, he said.
A number of Bangladeshis working at New York Police Department have been diagnosed with Covid-19, he confirmed.
Besides, there are Bangladeshi doctors at most hospitals in New York, and they are providing treatment to coronavirus patients, Zakaria said.
Many of them are being infected with the virus, he added.
