4 held over attempt to kill ex-BCL chief
Rapid Action Battalion members have arrested four people for their alleged attempt to kill Enamul Haq Shamim, a central leader of the ruling Awami League, in the capital last month.
The arrestees are Monir, Jewel, Mehedi and Harun, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.
Shamim, also former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was shot by unidentified gunmen at Dhanmondi in the capital on June 19.
The elite force members arrested the four in separate drives in the capital and different other parts of the country between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Shamim is the founder and president of Board of Trustees of Stamford University and vice-chairman of Port City International University in Chittagong.
Among the arrestees, Mehedi and Harun might have opened fire targeting Shamim when his car reached in front of Ibn Sina Diagnostic and Imaging Centre in Dhanmondi, said ATM Habibur Rahman, director at the legal and media wing of Rab.
