3 killed in Tangail road crash

Three people including a minor girl were killed and three injured as a speedy truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Bashail upazila of Tangail this morning.

The deceased were identified as Masud Rana, 35, driver of the three-wheeler; and its passenger Banya Begum, 30, and her daughter Ratri, 8, residents of Melandah upazila of Jamalpur, report our Tangail correspondent.

Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bashail Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound goods-laden truck from Tangail hit an oncoming auto-rickshaw near Baoikhali bus stand around 8:00am, leaving it driver dead on the spot and injuring its five passengers.

The injured were whisked off to Tangail Medical College and Hospital where Banya Begum and her daughter Ratri died around 9:30pm.

On information, police rushed to the spot and detained the truck driver and seized his vehicle.

A case was lodged with the Bashail Police Station in this connection.
