Three fishermen were arrested on Saturday while they were trying to fish using poison in the Pashur River in the Sundarbans.

Forest guards arrested the trio with seven sacks of forbidden nets and six bottles of pesticides from their trawlers in Harbaria area of Bagerhat on Saturday night, said Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer of the Sundarbans East Forest Department.

The arrestees are Israfil (30), of Dacope upazilas, and Bellal (25), and Kamrul (32), both of Mongla upazila in the district, the forest officer told our local correspondent.

They were sent to a local court yesterday afternoon after the Forest Department filed a case against them under the Forest Act.
