29 Bangladeshis rescued from Benapole frontier
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 29 Bangladeshi citizens including women and a child from Putkhali frontier early this morning while they were trying to cross border to India.
A BGB team raided the area and nabbed 15 women, 13 men and the child illegally crossing over with help of traffickers, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Lt Col Majharul Islam, commanding officer of BGB 23 Battalion.
The traffickers however managed to flee the scene sensing the law enforcers’ presence, Lt Col Majharul said.
The victims hailed from different areas of Narail, Khulna and Faridpur districts, he added.
Later, they were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
A case was lodged in this connection.
