1,500 kg relief rice recovered in Gaibandha, 2 held in connection

Police have recovered 50 sacks of vulnerable group development (VGD) rice, weighing 1,500 kg, from an empty house in Gaibandha's Sundarganj upazila last night.

Police also arrested two people in this connection, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting Md Abdullahil Zamal, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station.

The detainees are Md Mokbul Hossain Bapary (52), caretaker of the house and Aynal Mia (35), the OC said.

"On information, a team of police conducted a drive around 10pm at the house in Domerhaat Nijgram village and found 50 sacks of VGD rice," said the OC.

Both the detainees admitted that they bought the rice from the beneficiaries of the VGD project.

A case was filed with Sundarganj Police Station against the arrestees. They will be produced before court today.
