Zero tolerance
The government will take a zero tolerance policy when dealing with extortion ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja, said State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday.
He was talking to reporters after attending a meeting on providing security during the two festivals at his secretariat office.
"We will set up watch towers at key points on highways across the county. Highway police officials equipped with night vision binoculars will keep watch on the road to check extortion," he said.
He added that the government will take additional measures to ease traffic congestions and prevent untoward situations on roads between September 30 and October 6 for the two festivals.
He said Bangladesh Bank and police will install fake currency detectors at cattle markets check the use of fakenotes.
Business representatives, chiefs of police, intelligence agencies, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel, and Senior Home Secretary Muzammel Haque Khan attended the meeting.
