Gold bars worth Tk 8.5cr recovered in Chuadanga, Jhenidah
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh seized 91 gold bars, weighing 11.73 kilogrammes, in Chuadanga and Jhenidah on Tuesday.
On information, a BGB team conducted a drive in Darshana of Chuadanga's Jibannagar upazila, said Mohammad Saiful Islam, assistant director of 58th BGB Battalion.
Abdus Shukur, 35, of Nutanpara village in the upazila, was detained with six gold bars during the raid, he added.
The gold bars are worth Tk 51 lakh, the officer further said.
A case will be filed against the detainee, he said, adding that the gold bars were handed over to Darshana Police Station.
Meanwhile, a patrol team of BGB conducted a raid at Gopalpur village in Maheshpur upazila.
During the drive, 85 gold bars, weighing 11.390 kilogrammes, were recovered by digging soil in a banana orchard.
The seized gold bars are worth over Tk 8 crore. It will be deposited to Jhenaidah Treasury Office after filing a case with Maheshpur Police Station, BGB official Saiful said.
