The making of Kuhu Art III: A celebration of colour, life and Dhaka

On 17 November, Kuhu Plamondon hosted her 3rd art exhibition at the Bay Edgewater Gallery, Gulshan Dhaka. Finding inspiration from the simplest of things, Kuhu’s art collection this time was a sheer reflection of her thoughts. Sponsored by City Bank Limited, Mercedes Benz, and Bay Developments Ltd, the event exhibited some of the mesmerising arts of Kuhu Plamondo.

During the early 90s, the term urban was limited to a small radius in the city of Dhaka. Fast forward 30 years, and the term “urban” has spread as far as the horizon of the ever-growing mega city. As the new era preceded its adverse effects with full force, the urbanites adapted accordingly. From carrying briefcases while donning baggy trousers to carrying a backpack with slim-fit jeans, a lot has changed if you look at the era with a microscope.

Children huddled in a corner huffing plastic bags is a common sight in Dhaka. Though rehabilitation efforts are needed urgently, the authorities that should be concerned only seem to be shifting the responsibility from one to other, while the children continue to suffer on the streets.

Absence implies their lack of political will

Although the country witnessed a significant urban growth in the last few decades, there was an absence of proper transport planning and institutions in the urban transport sector, causing indiscipline and mismanagement there, experts and activists said yesterday.
