ICMA NSU Student Chapter welcomes new recruits for 2018
Recently, the orientation programme of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) NSU Chapter for new recruits of 2018 was held at North South University. The session began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Mohammad Al Jafari, followed by the national anthem. Afterwards, all the new recruits took their seats before the Founding Faculty Advisor Md.Saidur Rahman, Lecturer, Department of Political Science and Sociology, delivered his speech. He highlighted how ICMA is a crucial co-curricular activity, and how it holds great importance in shaping the world today.
Moreover, the recruits were introduced with the members of the Founding Executive Panel, where each of the members in respect to their earned positions spoke of their immense appreciation for them as they attained the positions through hard work. Afterwards, there was a trivia held on basic questions on the country by Founding General Secretary, Saif Ahammed, where many of the recruits took part. The Founding Vice President of ICMA NSU Student Chapter, Sangita Akter, discussed the core activities and the upcoming plans of this chapter with the audience and shared her experiences. The Founding President of the chapter, Ajbinur Islam said, "The ICMA NSU Student Chapter is working for not only a better city management but also for good citizens and for a better country. Student activities are the core for leadership development and to be a perfect human for a better country."
At the award- giving session, the appreciation award was presented to Md Saidur Rahman, Founding Faculty Advisor of ICMA NSU Student Chapter. Award of affiliation was presented to Department of Political Science and Sociology and also another appreciation award was given to the chair of the Department of Political Science and Sociology Professor Sk. Tawfique M. Haque. The award of performance was presented to Band Pin Code and the awards of executives were given to Ajbinur Islam, Sangita Akter, Md Saif Ahammed, Mehedi Hasan Siam and Md Abdul Rasel.
Students also put up cultural performances. Marjia Tabassum, Tawhidul Islam Pranto, Tahmid Akand, Redwan Ahmed Shawon, Mohiminul Sami, Farzana Monika, Mehfuza Yasmin, Ashfaqur Rahman Borsho, Mohammad Samir, Kaosar Habib, Rakat Hasan, Majharul Islam, Mazhar Riyadh, Zonayet Mia, Rakib Rahat, Tanvir Haq Antu, Soumik Roy, Fazly Rabbi and many others, who are an integral part of the ICMA NSU Student Chapter were present. The day ended with a small musical performance by two students and another marvelous performance by the band Pin Code.
The ICMA NSU student chapter hopes to create a milestone in city management. The chapter has set targets for starting events and projects on city problems and possible solutions. The headquarters of this programme is located in Washington, DC. Currently, thirty people are working on research on the localisation of Chinese Company at Bangladesh with Yunnan University of China.
